Checked In: OPORA Country Living Hotel
Our new edition, diving into hotel treasures in Greece
Hello lovely people! Apart from the usual issues coming in, I will be trying something new here with Checked In: an honest, quick dive into specific hotels that I will be visiting around Greece. Short review, honest opinions, and a plethora of photos for you to experience a small taste of these unique treasures. Let’s check in! 🗝
Last weekend was a holiday weekend for Greeks, as on the 28th of October every year we celebrate the big “No” that our government replied to the offer of Mussolini during World War II, which basically meant that our country would go to war against the Axis Powers. Our destination for the weekend was Opora Country Living, a boutique hotel very close to Nafplio, 2 hours away from Athens.

Opora, even though a hotel, feels more like travelling to your country house for the weekend. A true oasis, with a limited number of rooms (4 rooms and 3 houses) that help keeping your stay both intimate, and also serene.
We stayed in the “Oporonas” room on the ground floor, and we were served breakfast privately every morning in our little porch. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming, and offered us amazing recommendations for local restaurants and things to do. The weather was a tiny bit moody and chilly for a dip in the pool, but it definitely looked tempting!

Dinner wise, we tried two amazing restaurants in the area, Psalidas Vicky's Specialties and Liotrivi. Liotrivi was a very decent taverna, in the Pirgiotika village; a solid 8/10 (do not forget to try their veal liver!).
Psalidas however… wow! It is situated in Lefkakia, a village slightly further away from us, but so worth it! It is an 100% authentic Greek taverna, with Vicky and George putting all their efforts, fresh ingredients and their best selves in it for many years now. Every single dish was exceptional, from the salads, to the appetisers and the mains. And of course, at the end we were served a homemade dessert, on the house! Thank you Vicky and George for this unforgettable meal and the good company!

Finally, another excellent recommendation around the area is visiting one of the wineries that are located around Nemea, an important wine destination in Greece. We opted for Skouras winery, where we tasted 6 of their delicious wines and were also given a tour around the premises and their beautiful cellar.

If you would like a better glimpse into our weekend at Opora, you can check our TikTok as well as our Instagram stories! Thank you for being here! 🧿
Nafplio was my favorite destination on our recent 3-week trip to the Peloponnese. I enjoyed climbing the 999 steps to the Palamidi Fortress.
